We are a provincial non-profit organization supporting the equitable inclusion of university students with developmental disabilities in a wide variety of programs of study at universities across BC, at UBC, UBCO, NVIT, UVIC, Emily Carr, Trinity Western, and SFU. We have participated in practicum placements in the past, so long as there isn’t a practicum requirement to work directly with students we support. We would be able to create a practicum placement that included working directly (remotely, under the current circumstances), with inclusion facilitators at all campuses, myself and our executive director, as well as board members and stakeholders in inclusive post-secondary.
Teacher candidates could encompass experiences collaboratively working through our training modules and staff professional development training experience with myself (provincial coordinator), and senior facilitators, opportunities to work hands-on modifying course materials and assignments for student's individual support needs, conversations about our benchmarks and guiding principles, reflections on the historical lack of access to education for individuals with disability labels, and supporting the creation of inclusive classrooms at a university academic level, looking at how principles of universal design for learning compliment inclusion of students experiencing barriers to equitable educational access. We are also currently working on a project funded by the Vancouver Foundation around the transition from high school to university for students with developmental or intellectual disabilities; an overview of this could be included if of interest to a practicum student
