Description:Teacher Candidates will be working in multiple locations. Some experience will take place at the Canucks Autism Network (CAN) head office in Vancouver, and some will take place off-site at sport and recreation programs, which which are located various locations in the Lower Mainland. Students must be able to travel to the programs on their own. At off-site programs, students will observe activities facilitated by staff and volunteers trained to implement evidence-based, proactive strategies to enhance class structure, communication, and participant engagement. Teacher candidates may also observe community training presentations on how to apply these strategies in the community setting. For more information about CAN programs and locations, please visit: https://www.canucksautism.ca/programs/ In the office, teacher candidates will be working with the Manager of Training to research, evaluate, and develop resources for teachers to increase autism awareness in schools, such as creating sensory friendly spaces in schools and helping students learn skills to increase social interaction.
