Hiiye’yu Lelum House of Friendship – Right to Play (Play for Prevention)

The Right to Play program is a diabetes awareness program that teaches through play. Three days a week the program is run out of a gymnasium and once a week at the Duncan Friendship Youth Centre. The program provides transportation, a healthy snack and three hours of activity for children. Teacher candidates will get the opportunity to help plan and facilitate activities in gymnasium and youth centres.

Play for Prevention is an outdoor program during the month of June. Activities include hiking and swimming in the Cowichan River, weather permitting. Teacher candidates are also expected to contribute to program promotion and basic administration duties. The Right to Play is a year-round program that transforms into a summer camp at the end of the school year.
