Theme: Public Education
Description:JES works with teachers to produce a range of legal education resources for BC teachers and student. Our objective is to improve the legal capability of youth. This is accomplished through a series of programs that target BC Social Studies curriculum. Practicum teachers would have the opportunity to produce legal education teaching resources. While the timing comes late in the school year, there may also be opportunities to present legal education topics directly to students (through digital technologies) or contribute to our professional development webinars for teachers. JES staff include lawyers, instructional designers and a digital production team to support the development of educational content. We also contract a number of BC teachers to author content. Practicum teachers will have the opportunity to work with JES staff, BC teachers and others to help educate students on elements of BC's justice system. Each year (other than this COVID year), JES provides in-person education to over 20,000 students. Since COVID, we now deliver legal education webinars and we continue to produce legal education curriculum resources (including distance learning resources).
No specific JES costs. Our offices are in courthouses in Vancouver (Robson Square) and Surrey. In these COVID times, it is likely that teachers - like JES staff - would work a combination of hours from home and at the office.
