SD #58 Nicola-Similkameen (Merritt and Princeton)

For Secondary Placements April 23 - May 11, 2018:

We gather to learn on the traditional territories of Nle?kepmx and Syilx peoples. During your stay with us, you will likely help organize and host a district-wide Arts Festival featuring visual and performing Arts. In addition, we host many First Nations activities between the end of April and mid-May such as: the Awaking of the Canoes, our Aboriginal Teck Day, and an Aboriginal Culture Camp at one of our first Nations Communities featuring: traditional food, drumming, history and experiences on the land. Your placement will include classroom experiences and opportunities to participate in a variety of activities before, during and after school. We are surrounded by beautiful ranch land and numerous lakes.

For Elementary Placements June 11-29, 2018:

We gather to learn on the traditional territories of Nle?kepmx and Syilx peoples. During your stay with us, you will likely participate in a whole-school experience from K-7 involving both Literacy and Numeracy. In addition, you will help organize and host our year-end events including but not limited to: field trips in the surrounding area, sports days, and National Aboriginal Day. Your placement will include a variety of activities before, during and after school. We are surrounded by beautiful ranch land and numerous lakes.

Associated Costs:

Teacher Candidates are expected to drive from accommodation to various locations throughout the district.

Travel - 3 hours driving from Vancouver to Merritt and/or Princeton

Accommodation - might be able to provide homestays (TBA).

Food ~ $50 per day.

No vaccinations needed.
