SCY Society for Children and Youth of BC

Teacher candidates will work with our Child and Youth Friendly Communities coordinator, program facilitators and potentially with members of SCY’s Youth Advisory Council on various projects related to sustainability & citizenship education, and education for reconciliation through a place- and project-based pedagogy that builds on child-friendly urban planning.

Tasks will include developing and updating lesson-plans, resources, and activities for the Urban Explorers K-7 curriculum, developing or adapting lessons for high-school classes, compiling or analyzing data on student projects, summarizing program outcomes, assisting with final reports, and updating the SCY website and/or blog. Additionally, when our school-based or any out-of-school programs are running teacher candidates will be invited to co-facilitate sessions.

Training will be provided in Child Rights and UNICEF’s Child Friendly Cities work, as well as related rights-based education programs and initiatives, including the local Urban Explorers program currently running in partnership with the City of Vancouver in VSB elementary schools.

Associated Costs:

Teacher candidates are responsible for travel costs to and from program locations.
