The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm's 60-acres outdoor classroom hosts, creates and maintains a number of children's education programs, including school field trips, summer camps, and school garden programs. Our programming focuses on nature-related inquiries into plant life cycles, forest ecosystems, waste cycles, and the importance of pollinators..
Hours are generally 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with possibility of some after school programming. Teacher candidates work with UBC Farm Children's Program staff to develop field trip and summer camp curriculum as well as experience the variety of on-site programs. This is a perfect example of innovative, alternative education in a setting that offers more that can be imported back into conventional classrooms and school gardens.
