Junior Ranger Pledge: "As a Junior Ranger I promise to teach others about what I learned today, explore other parks and historic sites, and help preserve these places so future generations can enjoy them"
The Junior Ranger Program will Educate, Entertain, and Inspire youth and families visiting Vancouver. The Junior Ranger Program will support the Vancouver Park Board mandate to provide, preserve and advocate for parks and recreation to benefit all people, communities and the environment. The Junior Ranger program will be a resource for all teachers and families to facilitate safe and exciting outdoor learning in city parks, with a focus on Stanley Park, the “Jewel of Vancouver”.
Teacher candidates will work alongside the Lead Ranger in Stanley Park lending their relevant expertise on outdoor education initiatives and the Junior Ranger brand. Examples of previous projects include creating a Junior Ranger Stanley Park Activity Book and hosting Junior Ranger field trips with their practicum school. The teacher candidates will also have the opportunity to gain a new perspective of Stanley Park Ecology, History, and Conservation with the Park Ranger approach to Safety, Respect for Nature, and Civic Responsibility.
This is a unique opportunity to be an integral part of the Vancouver Park Board and City of Vancouver's Greenest City Initiative and Park Ranger Community Outreach programs.
Teacher candidates can invite their classrooms from their practicums on a field trip to the Stanley Park Ranger Station at Second Beach during their CFE experience to pilot their outdoor activities where the students will earn Junior Ranger Badges. Teacher candidates will also support the Lead Ranger’s involvement in other exciting outreach programs including Jane’s Walks, Stanley Park Ecology Society’s Eco Rangers, and Wild About Vancouver’s Tidal WAV event.https://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/protecting-our-parks.aspx https://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/protecting-our-parks.aspx
